They keep saying whale, but his name “WALE”.  This Washington DC MC is fighting for his place in the hip-hop elites as he seeks to make exceptional music that the buyers will appreciate.

Dropping his fresh lyrics on a wide variations of songs by major recording artists, and his major commercial hit “Chillin” featuring Lady GaGa,  Wale is definitely a strong representative of the “freshman class” which consists of Drake, Kid Cudi, and Wale.  Wale is the last of the freshman class to release his album in the fourth quarter of the 2009 music year.  Just by the album cover, you see Wale is trying his best to take you in a different direction that will cause you to have no need for a navigation system.  Can Wale overcome what is so hard for so many new artist to do.  Is Wale Refreshing the state of Hip-Hop with a new and vibrant sound that will touch the masses?  Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, everyone has their eye on this new prospect.

The first studio album by new artist Wale is called “Attention Deficit”,  this album was released on November 10, 2009 and comes with 14 tracks for your listening pleasure.  The album has guest appearances from Gucci Mane, Jazmin Sullivan, Bun-B, J.Cole, and the always talked about Lady Gaga.  There is production on the album from the Neptunes, Cool & Dre, Best kept secret, and Dj Green Lantern.  Wale’s album was scheduled to drop in late September but due to touring issues it was pushed back to Novemeber. Touring is always a good idea before an album is released because it gives the artist a chance to gain more recognition and also gives fans a chance to really gain an apprecition for the artist’s body of work.

Wale’s album is a very original artistic piece of work,  the track that stood out to me the most in the beginning of the album was “Mama told me.”  In this song Wale seems to talk to Hip-Hop introducing himself to his fans, haters, and peers.  He also talks about how he never could imagine that him and hip-hop would be together like a Marriage.  He talks about how he dropped out of school for Hip-Hop, which is a powerul statement because many who drop out of school for a career in music rarely make it except for the talented and hard working.  This speaks volumes to me because Wale is placing himself in that group of artists who are few to make it, but when they do it’s a big deal.

The song that will catch your ear, is “Contemplate” Ft Rhianna, definitely a song that will have you reflecting on situations that happen in life.  In this song, Wale seems to question himself and wonders if he is doing what he is doing is for the people or for himself?  A question that many celebs who are in the lime light ask themselves when it becomes too much to handle.  I thought this song was what many want to hear from a artist who is in the media’s spotlight. It seemed like a warning to me for those who seek to get into the music world.  Are you prepared for all that comes with the package?

Wale’s New album has a wide range of songs on his album that will not only have you dancing in the club, or moving while you get dressed for work, but his album is thought provaking  and will have you thinking what else does Wale have instore for the world.   This album recieves 4 Points out of 5.  Wale’s new album is what I would say is “Good for Hip-Hop”, it is very insightful into the mind of a artist and what they face on a day to day basis.  There are certain ingredients that are forgotten to be added to the pot when albums are being created and one ingredient that people seem to love to hear from a artist is realism that they can relate too.  Wale has a bright future ahead of him as long as he remains consistant and increases his level of maturity on all his future projects.
